			Night Travelers

	The Spörkel woman and the Percht:
	faces blackened, hair all mussed,
	breasts laid bare, suckling 'Hudlkind's' care;
	all tales of yore know the rounded cusp:

	the cycles of the moon and stars,
	the werewolf's howl and sow's wintry lust:
	the riders of the hedge, winding sheets of ice
	brightly wrapped in girdle light, flying, trust

	the weedy bracken feeding elven lords;
	who go 'between the times'; they say,
	"to war they go a 'battling the gods dark
	sparks with fierce war cry's braying hordes";

	wildly on the Broken Mountain,
	seedy givers trine, the bloody bole,
	witches sabbat binding knows
	nightly rites of fright and woe:

	Walpurgis Night of nights they burst:
	broken circles of the witches, women naked
	on the heath, their voices wild and free;
	the breath of moon, the dew slaked thirst;

	wombs of blood and virgins thirst,
	cauldron mysteries of ancient Queens:
	Frau Holda and Queen Diana brace;
	Artemis and Hecate, battle-wielding crones

	of ecstasy and sheer delight,
	sound of magick in the night,
	the power of grace and might enchafe;
	the dancing throng of spirits dead

	on dragon, wolf, and witches skin,
	over welkin brood and boggy fen
	on broomsticks and hemp stalks,
	on moon steeds and nightmare foals;

	to the moon lands ancestral home
	all move in windy spirals deosil,
	to the light of lights above us all:
	the Moon Star guides us 'outside time'

	where in the misty waters of the Veil
	we see the Isle of the Forest Maidens rise,
	Avalon of Westernesse, the broken light
	made whole. the measure of our deep songs bliss.
