Earthwizard's Realms of Faërie

In the damp caves of Southern France a long time ago...

	The Goddess of Laussel

	In a cave long ago
	woman or man, man or woman
	carved her image in stone
	above the gateway to this sacred portal,
	this ritual space where women and men
	first learned about the blood red moon:
	of birth, growth, maturity, old age, and death;
	the endless seasons of the of Great Mother's endowment;
	and, even now her incised silhouette speaks out
	a language of motherly love and empowerment:
	her stout legs planted firmly in earth,
	she raises a horned moon (lunar marked
	by thirteen crescents) in honor of woman's legacy:
	as if, the markings held a sense of time
	measured by a mind that knows
	more than can be held in an image of time;
	she presses gently her left hand
	to the naked flesh of her impregnated abdomen,
	feeling the light moving below in the sea of darkness:
	the blood webs weaving the filaments of a destiny;
	her breasts full of milk and nourishment
	hold sway to a purity of intent and desire
	rising and falling as the proud heart of her motherhood
	gains moment by moment the expectancy of new life:
	in her natural setting she is divine, the raw power
	of earth, moon, and turning stars rising
	out of the simplicity of her ample figure;
	a mother's empowering vision of womanhood:
	the minimalist design of the ancient shape bespeaks
	an artisan of the highest caliber;
	one for whom the trauma of birthing, bloodletting,
	and the awakening to life of a child's cries
	still teach us the witching ways of the blood red moon.
