	Lady of the Lake: the Awakening

	Every woman knows the secret power of her mystery,
	the insistent gaze that holds a man frozen in his warriors' gait;
	the proud eye folds before the deep enchantments of the Lady of the Lake
	who before all women of the indomitable Irishry serves the threefold goddess.
	         Down by the mossy banks of the pebbly brook she lay,
	             this faŽrie maiden of the old religion of the Craft of the Wise.

	She taught the secret arts to Myrddin, Arthur's wizard,
	whose renown from old is known through the wide lands of Eire;
	and this same Myrddin, by the power of the white apple-blossom
	did once befall her magic spell; for love ice-sheathed his heart enchained.
		Down by the mossy banks of the pebbly brook she lay,
		   this faŽrie maiden of the old religion of the Craft of the Wise.

	Lancelot, of Guinevere's fame, she taught the bardic lore,
	and guided the shaping of their dark impassioned love;
	keeper of the Grael, this Queen of the Isle of Avalon,
	by the wheel of the thirteen moons, wyrd's marvels did break a King's black pride.
		  Down by the mossy banks of the pebbly brook she lay,
		   this faŽrie maiden of the old religion of the Craft of the Wise.

	The Chalice and the Blade: two worlds held at bay,
	one a tribute to the old ways, the other shaped to the monks lays;
	Vivian, her common name, sang the final elegy for the Children of the Moon,
	when long ago the faŽrie kindred sailed west beyond the sundered seas.
		Down by the mossy banks of the pebbly brook she lay,
		   this faŽrie maiden of the old religion of the Craft of the Wise.
