Earthwizard's Realms of Faërie

Life after life the circle is bright...

	The Beastiary of Master Galdor:
	The Firedrake
	His glittering eyes, the folded wings
	of red and green and gold;
	the fire wisps round his nose
	that puff and bellow with the clouds
	of smoke above his agéd head;
	the cloven claws that spring
	with every dream of mystery
	that gathers round his silent mind
	swim into view as he wraps his tail
	around the golden horde;
	the maw of sharp teeth that sing
	of heroes dead and gone;
	the hooded skull, the diamond
	on the brow, that marks the princely
	foe that fell before this god
	out of ancient tales of blood and moon.
	Old bones upon the hill are found,
	the buried filaments of light
	that once was in majestic flight;
	a proud Prince of Air and Darkness,
	his lair the keeping of an ancient curse:
	beware the eyes of power and magick
	for they are deep and hypnotic.
	Galder Wizard, Ancient of Days,
	his life a brooding and a maze:
	he knows the wisdom of the elven lords;
	his fierce stare freezes thee into ice,
	his fire braces thee into light,
	his mind turns thee from wight to sprite.
	Beowulf and Sigurd knew the score:
	the deadly deed of Wyrd's bright lore,
	the magickal swords that sought the gorge;
	but most of all they knew the night:
	the moment of his dark flight
	out of the deep abyss of time,
	for in the twilight time
	between the worlds of light and dark,
	when all is chaos and unruliness,
	then magick is afoot within the skies,
	and all the dragons of the earth
	upon the wind shall screech and hie,
	and you will know the fear of battle wings
	that gathers on the lee of storms,
	the murky hollow of the mind
	will shake and tremble at the power
	of the firedrake in his black hour,
	the scaly glimmer of his bright eyes!
