Earthwizard's Realms of Faërie

melter of limbs...

	The melter of limbs
	visited me tonight,
	the soft warmth
	of his fire
	passing through me
	lit my mind
	like a bonfire
	on Imbolc,
	the flames of love,
	desire: the spur
	of this god’s bittersweet draught
	flowing in my limbs
	melting past all hope
	of freedom’s wounded battle call
	this debtor’s reason for being:
	the guilt of past wrong,
	regrets of heart
	on seeing her
	who is my life’s blood:
the light of her love, desiring!

The art of poetry defines love in many ways: the greeks
saw it as a god of extreme sensual tension; a creature upon
whom as Anne Carson in ‘eros, the bittersweet’, says: “In Greek
lyric poetry, eros is an experience of melting. The god of
desire himself is traditionally called “melter of limbs”. His
glance is “more melting than sleep or death’. The lover whom he
victimizes is a piece of wax, dissolving at his touch. Is melting
a good thing? That remains ambivalent.”
