		Death and the Maiden
	Her heart broken among the chards,
	the splinter of its flesh dissolves,
	and in its place a heart of stone is set:
	the unfeeling coldness of its weight
	weighs heavy on her chest, her mind
	no longer hers, restless and full of regrets
	holds forth disquieting thoughts
	that gives to her mien that awful frown
	that gathers all her strength into this song:
	she feels the loss of all her might,
	the feelings of her mind falling waywardly
	into the dark of time; the moments of her life,
	measured in spoons of milk and honey, the tea
	of each cup sipped wasted on her tongue,
	for she no longer tastes the sweetness of its essence;
	she knows the bitterness of defeat,
	the hurly burly rage of her man upon her flesh:
	the slow decay of trust, the unspoken words,
	the looks that cast all into doubt;
	for now, she stalks the halls, a ghost of her former self,
	not knowing whom she'll meet in each room:
	her younger selves all begin to fade into the shades
	of memories, their lives a myth once believed;
	now she lives within this frozen world,
	a victim of her own indecision, unable to make a choice,
	knowing both love and hate beget the same mistakes;
	but one to life portends, the other to the portal of the damned.
